Jessica Learns About Conformation.
Hello again,
This week at Pony Club we were learning about Conformation. We all looked in our books and we talked about it. None of us really knew what it was so Sally explained it to us.
If a horse has good Conformation it makes our job as the rider easier. No horse is perfect but a well put together horse is more likely to be athletic and well balanced. For a horse to have good conformation his neck, back and hip should all be the same length. A horse with good conformation is likely to be a good eventer. As long as your horse has a big heart that is all that matters, a horse doesn't have to have great conformation to be a good horse to ride.
After stable management we went to get our ponies from their stables for our lesson with Blythe. This week I was on... Minnie! Yippee! We all mounted up and then we started to walk around the arena a few times. Then we all took turns to trot around. Minnie was going really well and she wasn't being to bouncy.
We changed the rein and then we did the same exercise again. After that we all took turns to canter round. Minnie went really well and the canter was really smooth. I managed to sit deep in my saddle and sit up tall. We did the same exercise again three times and each time Minnie went perfectly.
After the cantering Minnie was starting to toss her head again. Blythe came over to have a look and it turned out that Minnie had managed to get her bit under her tounge again! Poor Minnie it must be so sore for her. Minnie managed to do the same thing again two more times during the lesson and Blythe says that she will talk to Sally about it because Minnie doesn't like her bit. Hopefully Minnie will have a new bit soon. Hooray!
After Minnie's bit had been put back into place Blythe put up a jump. It was quite small to start with. We all took turns to trot over it. Minnie popped over it no problem! Blythe put up the jump so that it was quite high and we all went round again. Minnie jumped like a dream! Then Blythe said she would put up the jump even higher for the people that wanted to do it. Esme, Katie and Natalie all wanted to do it. Minnie was getting a bit excited by this point so I decided not to jump and higher. Me and Minnie just went over the other jump instead. Blythe said we could canter over it if we wanted to so I got Minnie to canter and we flew over the jump it was so fun!
Then sadly it was the end of the lesson we all took our ponies back to the yard un-tacked them and put their rugs on. I really enjoyed Pony Club this week and jumping on Minnie was awesome!
