2011 was another fantastic Pony Club year! Full of training, competitions and fun, we look back to celebrate and look forward through the winter months to an exciting 2012 Olympic year!
March saw the Annual Conference at Cheltenham Racecourse where, Badminton Horse Trials winner, Paul Tapner told some wonderful stories from his Pony Club days.
In April The Dengie Winter League Show Jumping and Dressage produced some brilliant grassroots competition, as did the NFU National Quiz Final. The Instructors Conference’s held around the country also enjoyed success with Yogi Breisner as key speaker, reaching over 1000 Instructors!
May saw the Scotland take the honours in the DAKS International Mounted Games at RWHS.
The Musto Open Eventing League enjoyed it first year, with 44 events taking place across the country and over 700 riders taking part in the league.
In June the annual Cubitt Awards saw the biggest number of awardees ever with an incredible 80 recipients!
July enjoyed the Polocrosse World Cup with Pony Club Members taking part which saw GB taking the honours. The Mounted Games Exchange team also enjoyed success in the USA, bringing home the team victory.
The Championship season kicked off with the Audi Polo Championships, which saw the Cowdray Gannon Team take the hat-trick for the Daily Telegraph Trophy. Members from Branches and Centres all over the country attended, and enjoyed success, at The Pony Club Championships at Draycott House in Derbyshire.
The Tetrathlon Championships welcomed the International Exchange competitors on their final leg, after three weeks of hotly contested events in the UK and Ireland and the NFU Mutual Novice competitors began their competitive Pony Club days in a ‘slightly soggy’ Cheshire.
The Dengie Endurance Championships enjoy their third year, with several new Branches taking part.
In October the Oakley Hunt West Branch lifted the Prince Philip Cup, for an impressive seventh time, at HOYS and in early November The Pony Club Annual 2011 was published as a colourful round up of the year.
The HSBC Eventing Training series came to a close with winner from The Pony Club Championships enjoying an Elite Training Day with, former Members and 4* event riders, William Fox-Pitt & Mary King!
www.PonyPrep.org saw the year out, as it started, with a bang as the new features were launched on the E Learning site to celebrate its first anniversary.
