Cleaning Tack

Added on 20th November 2011
This week the Pony Club Annual 2011 arrived on my doorstep!

It is fantastic and if your in the Pony Club then you will be getting a copy soon to!

It was a fab Pony Club at Wellsfield on Tuesday! First my riding group helped the younger ones lead the ponies they were on round to the lesson.

Then we all sat in the tack room with Sally (our instructor for stable managment.) She said that this week we were going to be cleaning tack. Most people in our group had done it before but there was a girl that had just joined called Natalie so she had not done it before. We were all put in groups of four 2 of the people in the group did the bridle and 2 of the people did the saddle. The people in my group were Ellie, Katie, Natalie and Me. We were cleaning a horse called Taylor's tack.

Me and Natalie were put together and we were doing the bridle. I helped Natalie to do it because as I said she had not done it before. Once Natalie had got the hang of it she finished of the martingale by herself and I finished cleaning the bridle. I learnt that you need to clean tack every time after you use it. If it gets to dirty it can rub on the horses skin and make it sore.

Then we headed round the the arena for our lesson. This week our instructor was Fiona. I was on Geo again.

First we got our ponies warmed up by walking and trotting round the arena. Geo is often a little bit slow so you really have to work to get her moving. Then we all cantered round Geo did a little buck when I was trying to get her to canter but I stayed on. Then we all made our stirrups a bit shorter and we did some jumping. I was pleased when Fiona said we would be doing jumping because Geo is an amazing jumper! Me and Geo jumped it easily and Fiona said Well Done. Some ponies were being very cheeky indeed!

I had a fab time at Pony Club this week and was very pleased that Me and Geo jumped so well!
